An Event and a Regional Tendency

Sharm el-Sheikh summit has been concluded without issuing a joint statement after stormy discussions on President Hosni Mubarak’s call for resuming Palestinian-Palestinian dialogue despite recent events in Gaza and Mubarak’s public support to Mahmoud Abbas and his emergency government.
Available information show that Abbas made changes in the authority’s security structure after Egyptian and US reports that held Mohammad Dahlan, the first security man for the Americans responsible for losing his security organs in Gaza which collapsed quickly despite their military and financial capabilities.
Arab sources talked about available US and Egyptian reports that hint at the involvement of groups related to Dahlan in Sinai explosions under the slogans of weakening relations between Hamas and Egyptian authorities and showing the dangers of Egyptian openness to Ismail Haniyeh’s government at that time.
Olmert and Barak consider that Sharm el-Sheikh summit has succeeded in providing cover for the Israeli army’s operations against Gaza. Here the real taste of the US pressures’ results takes place.
These pressures failed in obliging the international quartet to isolate Hamas due to the clear Russian stand.
Observers say that if Israel faces defeat in Gaza again, many Arab and international sides, including Fath, will change their stands in the few coming weeks, because this battle that Hamas fights to defend Gaza will identify the political balance that surrounds the Palestinian cause, which Washington tries to make it submit to an international Arab alliance that supports Israel, which is similar to the alliance that the US established during the July aggression on Lebanon, last year.

An Event and a Lebanese Tendency

Continuous battles in Nahr al-Bared, and the mobile clashes in the north and Ain al-Hilweh camp with al-Sham soldiers, Fatah al-Islam and Al-Qeada pose a big question on the security condition in the country after revealing the size of the extremist groups’ presence, which are led by multi-national elements, who came to Lebanon via Rafiq al-Hariri’s international airport.
Analysts link exhausting Lebanese army inside the country and on a grand scale, with the pressurizing US-Israeli movements to internalize Lebanese-Syrian borders and authorize the UNIFIL under the seventh chapter under the title of the Lebanese army’s inability to carry out all these missions together.
If this analysis is correct, there is a link between the attack on the UNIFIL and these goals which reflect a new map for Lebanese reality in the face of the possibilities of a new Israeli war on Syria and Lebanon or on the two countries.
The US-Israeli movements aim at besieging Hezbollah and cutting any possible communication with Syria, starting off from US allegations, adopted by the UN Secretary General, which say that weapons flow across the borders to Hezbollah’s stores.
The experts say that authorizing the UNIFIL in accordance with the seventh chapter and internalizing Lebanese-Syrian borders are two necessary measures to facilitate the Israeli army’s movement in any coming aggression on Lebanon, so if Syria decides to implement its warning to Israel, which was issued on last July, it will confront international arrangements that make its step more dangerous. This will also force Lebanese resistance to deal with the complication of the UNIFIL’s new condition in the state of war. This will be accompanied by some Lebanese sides’ commitments to exhaust resistance and facilitate the Israeli plan to terminate Lebanese condition under the title of implementing the resolution 1559 by force.
Experts say the zero hour will start after 3 years that Israel need to rehabilitate its defeated forces, but this war will be decisive and the US and its Arab and international allies prepare the Lebanese theatre for it. This is the meaning of some Lebanese sides’ new talk about changing the rules of engagement in South Lebanon.
