Simona Krupeckaite of Lithuania took silver in 34.066 at the Manchester Velodrome, and Sandie Clair of France finished in 34.253 to get the bronze by a thousandth of a second ahead of Willy Kanis of the Netherlands.

Guerra had taken silver a year ago, behind a world record-setting Anna Meares of Australia. Meares withdrew Monday because she has not yet fully recovered from serious injuries after crashing in January. Eight-time world champion Natallia Tsylinskaya of Belarus had a disappointing race, finishing eighth in 34.725.

Lisandra will also compete in speed and keirin. The world champions in scratch 2007 and 2004 Yumari Gonzalez and Yoanka Gonzalez respectively will also seek medals for Cuba in the English championships this weekend.

A total of 87 women from 26 countries and 205 men from 34 countries are taking part in the competition.
