During an interview with a Pakistani TV network on 20 September 2009, General Mirza Aslam Beg (ret.) accused the United States of assassinating Pakistani prime minister Benzair Bhutto and former Lebanese prime minister, Rafik Hariri. He specified that the assassinations had been carried out by the U.S. private security company Blackwater, now known as Xe.

General Beg was chief of army staff from 1988 to 1991. He served under President Ghulam Ishaq Khan and during prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s first administration.

As of 2002, General Beg - together with Mumtaz Bhutto, Elahi Bux Soomro and General Gul - played a key role in disseminating the September 11 analyses of Thierry Meyssan in Pakistan. He continues to be extremely active politically though the Foundation for Research on International Environment National Development and Security, a think tank presided by him.
