The Provincial Electoral Commissions for the upcoming partial
elections in April and May will be established on Saturday, January 9th, Granma newspaper
reports today.
These commissions will organize and lead the electoral process in all the provinces of the nation. Some of their responsibilities include the appointment of members of Municipal Electoral Commissions and supervising the electoral process in all districts and provincial territories.
They are also in charge of verifying the eligibility of candidates to the Provincial
Assemblies and they organize and head the sessions to constitute these local legislative bodies.
The National Electoral Commission was established last Wednesday and it is comprised of 17 people: a president, a vice-president, a secretary and 14 members.
