The solemn ceremony was attended by the institutions’ rector, Gustavo Cobreiro, and a delegation from the board of the United Nations Organization in Cuba, as well as by the ambassadors from Venezuela, Ronald Blanco, and Palestina, Akram Mohamed Samkam.

Leslie Yañez, deputy rector for research at the University, explained that, during the forum, the students will assume the representation of the different nations making up the UN, in order to contribute, from that perspective, to the promotion of knowledge on history, law and politics.

She highlighted that, until Friday, more than 70 participants from Cuba and from countries like Ecuador, Peru, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, will debate international issues on the basis of respect to the UN principles and International Law.

Carlos Amat, general director of the Cuban Association of the United Nations, highlighted the importance of events like HAVMUN to spread knowledge about the mechanism of performance of the UN and to awaken interest in its activities.

Oscar Arredondo, a student heading the exercise, highlighted that children’s rights,
health, foreign policy and the situation of immigrants will be among issues to be analyzed by participants.
