At the end of his Caracas visit, Syrian President Bashar el-Assad broached the idea with his Venezuelan host Hugo Chávez of formalising relations among States striving for their sovereignty against the hegemony of the U.S. and its armed wing, Israel.

The two statesmen spoke of creating a Free Allied Movement, primarily made up of those countries accused by Washington of belonging to the Axis of Evil, which would be chaired by Hugo Chávez.

The idea could come to fruition on the occasion of President Chávez’s visit to Damascus in the second half of 2010.

[In the same way that Venezuela promoted the creation of UNASUR to replace a waning OAS, the Free Allied Movement could be a substitute for the Non-Aligned Movement of which certain members are in fact subservient to the United States.]
