On 19 August 2010, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin welcomed Sergei Kiriyenko, Director-General of the Rosatom Nuclear Energy State Corporation.

The purpose of the meeting was two-fold: on one hand, to show domestic opinion that the nuclear sites had been properly safeguarded from the wildfires engulfing the area and, on the other hand, to send a message to the United States, Israel, Canada and the European Union that he had personally ordered the final delivery of the Bushehr power plant to Iran, despite their opposition and that of President Medvedev.

Immediately after the interview, Mr. Kiriyenko was on his way to Iran to supervise the operation.

Turkey, Vietnam and Bangladesh are currently transacting the purchase of plants from Rosatom.
