This afternoon, barely a few hours after Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq’s "apologies" for yesterday’s fatal clashes between undercover police and anti-government demonstrators in Cairo, Egyptian police have visibly run over a group of peaceful protestors, reportedly hurting some of them.

Tensions remain high in the Egyptian capital for the tenth consecutive day of protests against embattled President Hosni Mubarak.

Main opposition figures have called for another mass rally on Friday, saying it could be Mubarak’s day of departure.
