Editorial: The United States and the series of corruptions and wars
The global economic and financial signs pointing to the imminence of a new stage of collapse are increasing, while some experts believe it will have more dangerous effects and repercussions than the last crisis that witnessed the collapse of international stock markets and what followed it in terms of the bankruptcies that affected giant American corporations. The confirmed reality surrounding the financial and economic developments around the world is not due to the stalemate and ongoing commercial competitions on the international markets. Indeed, the fierce pillaging carried out by the dominating colonials states led by the United States and the blunt theft governing international capitalism during this stage of global economy are the source of the calamities affecting humanity.
The exposure of the thefts which amounted to 16 trillion dollars from the American Federal Reserve clearly conveyed the final destination of the world’s pillaged wealth which is accumulating in the rotten accounts of gangs that are using deceit, influence and brokerage, mainly in the United States among other developed countries. The Western rhetoric towards the Third World is exerting some sort of intellectual and cultural terrorism by repeatedly tackling the false claims related to the purity of the American system, which is actually a pit of theft, corruption and destruction for our world.
Consequently, the world now needs an awakening in the face of this dangerous American role on the economic, social and security levels while the tragedy that is closer to as masquerade is seeing the leaders of the United States and the European countries allied with it claiming to be preoccupied with the Somali famine after they burned its land with weapons of destruction and killings, and drowned it in civil wars set up by their intelligence apparatuses throughout the last four decades to pillage the remaining wealth in the Dark Continent.

Russian talk reveals Zionist plan
The information revealed by the Russian envoy at NATO is highly dangerous and is not a mere political commotion related to bargains and disputes between Russia and the United States over many regional issues and files. It is related to the debates which have been ongoing for years, ever since the uncovering of the predicament of the American empire and its adventures in the East.
Firstly: The Russian envoy in NATO said that a major war will target Iran and will practically be based on Syria’s military invasion through the exploitation of the events that are ongoing on its soil. This war for which the Zionist lobby is pushing in the United States and the European countries constitutes Israel’s way out form the bottleneck.
Secondly: The cost of the risks and the consequences which might result from any military interference in Syria seems massive and costly to both Israel and NATO as it will lead to the eruption of a wide scale resistance war against the invaders and Israel, while any foreign invasion attempt will enhance President Bashar al-Assad’s image among the Syrian people.
Thirdly: Clearly, the Zionist political control over the American and European decisions is based on a network of multinational financial and banking monopolizations controlled by the Zionists around the globe, at a time when Israel is going through the predicament of the collapse of its deterrence power and its blunt inability to wage any war following the defeat that affected it at the hands of the resistance bloc which includes Syria and the Lebanese and Palestinian resistance movements.
If a destruction and extermination war erupts, the industrial West and the Western powers will not be spared and cosmic war will naturally break out. The Syrian people and the populations of the region will resist any invasion by NATO or the Zionist entity where it hurts the West the most in order to truly liberate these people and correct the equations imposed by colonialism since the violation of Palestine.

News analysis: Syria heading toward salvation despite the commotion
The media and political commotion in regard to the situation in Syria escalated to create the impression that the so-called protests and demonstrations organized by the opposition domestically and abroad have increased on the ground. But the reality revealed by the developments seen last Friday were completely opposed to that despite the fierce instigation attempts by all sorts of international and regional tools to urge the Syrians to meet the calls for protests. Indeed, the wave seemed to have retreated while the Muslim Brotherhood organization and its allies in Syria appeared to be completely unable to embody the political wager by turning the nights of Ramadan into an arena for the escalation of the popular pressures. And when the people abstained from responding to those calls, they used the pretext the security and military escalation.
In the meantime, the virtual expression of the opposition aims at presenting it under a civil cover through the Internet, through speakers belonging to liberal movements and the eloquent statements of MB representatives domestically and abroad who are speaking to satellite channels and insisting that what is happening is a peaceful action. But this virtual expression is failing to convince the Syrian citizens who are present on the ground and are sometimes witnessing with their own eyes the kidnappings, the killings, the mutilation of the corpses and the burning of the public and private facilities.
For its part, the Syrian army whose cohesion is the object of amazement among the American experts and politicians and the Turkish leaders is carrying out its tasks based on the popular demands, thus representing to the vast majority of the Syrian public opinion a key pillar at the level of the Syrian insistence on the centralized state, its president Doctor Bashar al-Assad and his reformatory program.
The opposition groups tried to seek moral compensation in the Security Council statement and its delegation’s meeting with Hillary Clinton. But all of that, including the statements of Russian President Medvedev which aimed at pleasing the Americans, does not change the Syrian facts that reveal the Syrians awareness of the seriousness of the foreign plan targeting their country. Russia among other states is seeking its interests and the Syrian people are seeking theirs to reach salvation in the face of a global war aiming at subduing Syria and destroying its strength which was the main maker of the regional equations.

The Arab file

Syria
President Al-Assad issued two legislative decrees numbered 100 and 101, in regard to the parties’ law and the general elections’ law.
On the field, Syrian army units worked on the removal of the obstacles erected by the armed men on the entrances of the city of Hama. The official news agency SANA stated in this regard that armed gangs in Hama burned down the police stations, attacked public and private properties, erected obstacles and burned tires on the city’s entrances and in its streets. Many elements from the security forces were martyred while others were wounded as they were trying to deter the armed gangs.
The Security Council issued a statement condemning Syria and calling for the immediate discontinuation of the violence and the respect of human rights. At the level of the Lebanese position, Lebanon’s representative in the session said that Lebanon considered that the statement over Syria did not help in dealing with the situation in the country and that Lebanon consequently distanced itself from it.
Russian President Dmitri Medvedev urged President Al-Assad for his part to respond to “the calls for reform and reconcile with the opposition”.
The mosques’ scholars and speakers strongly condemned the brutal crimes committed by the armed terrorist groups that are terrorizing the citizens, targeting the police, security and army elements and sabotaging the public facilities and institutions, thus leading to the shedding of innocent blood.
On Saturday, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured that his foreign minister will be visiting Syria this week and will convey a very stringent position which will constitute a last warning to the Syrian regime and President Al-Assad. For her part, President Al-Assad’s adviser Doctor Boutheina Shaaban responded on Sunday by saying that if such a position is conveyed by the Turkish command, Syria will respond with a much harsher position.

Libya
Several cities in Libya are witnessing violent clashes between the revolutionaries and Colonel Kaddafi’s brigades in parallel to NATO’s ongoing bombing of several locations affiliated with Kaddafi. In the meantime, the Libyan rebels assured that the battles against Colonel Kaddafi’s brigades will proceed during the month of Ramadan, confirming that it was out of the question to suspend or slow down their march towards Tripoli.
Colonel Kaddafi addressed his supporters in the city of Janzour in an audio recording broadcast by the governmental television on Saturday. He said: “Our soldiers in Benghazi are engaged in battles against the apostates, the mercenaries and the traitors. The will of the Libyan people is stronger than the will of NATO which will be defeated before the Libyans’ resistance and courage.”
On August 4, Asharq al-Awsat carried the following report about the assassination of General Younis: The Libyan Provisional Council is attempting to contain the anger of the tribe of General Abdul Fattah Younis, the former military commander of the rebel forces, after he was assassinated in Benghazi along with his bodyguards in controversial circumstances. However, it seems that these attempts were not successful, especially since Younis’ family decided to break the media silence it had imposed on itself and speak to the media about the circumstances of the assassination while expressing anger over the way the council was dealing with the investigation.
In this respect, Moutassem, the general’s youngest son said to Asharq al-Awsat that if the investigation committee in charge of the case does not conduct its job properly and if it fails to get to the bottom of this dangerous case, the Younis family and the Obeidat tribe will ask to get the assistance and help of the
international criminal court. The statements made by General Younis’ son were issued following a meeting held by the prominent figures of the Al-Obeidat tribe which is considered to be the most important tribe in Libya. On the other hand, an official in the Provisional Council assured Asharq al-Awsat that this
case should not be discussed in the media since this would only serve Kaddafi’s regime.
For his part, General Younis’ son told Asharq al-Awsat that he
did not believe the allegations made by Kaddafi’s regime which accused
Al-Qaeda organization of being behind the plot. He added: “We want to know who ordered and plotted my father’s murder and we want these people to be
brought before justice, not just those who executed the murder.”

Palestine
Israel is witnessing protests against the high living expenses and especially the high prices of the residential apartments. The demonstrators have called for a one million people protest on Saturday, at a time when the protests have been ongoing for two weeks to demand the resolution of the housing problems while the demonstrators chanted slogans against the government and the prime minister. On the other hand, the Israeli occupation forces proceeded with their daily attacks against the Palestinians, waging this week a campaign of arrests in the West Bank and a bombing of positions in the Gaza Strip. Two young Palestinians were martyred in the Qalandia refugee camp near Ramallah during a raid carried out by the occupation army to arrest a number of Palestinian activists. The Palestinian authority condemned the attack on the camp and presidential official spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina said: “We condemn this Israeli crime in the camp which led to the martyrdom of two young men.”
In the meantime, the Palestinians decided - following a meeting in Ramallah in the presence of Palestinian officials and the representatives of a number of forces, factions and popular organizations - to head to the United Nations and request the membership of the state of Palestine on the 1967 border with Eastern Jerusalem as its capital, without closing the door in the face of negotiations that have been on hold for around a year.

Egypt
Two days before the trial of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, the Egyptian army raided Tahrir Square in Cairo and dispersed the sit-in of a few hundred demonstrators who remained on the square after the main political groups had suspended a sit-in which had lasted three weeks.
The relevant security apparatus at the Interior Ministry engaged in coordination with the armed forces to draw up a wide scale security plan in preparation for the trial. And following the session which lasted around four hours, the Cairo criminal court headed by judge Ahmat Rifaat decided to suspend the trial of Mubarak, his two sons and fugitive businessman Hussein Salem until August 15. The former Egyptian president for his part denied all the accusations that were made against him, including the instigation of the killing of the demonstrators. The same was done by his sons in response to the judge’s question regarding the list of accusations in crimes whose sentences will reach in Mubarak’s and Adli’s case the level of the death sentence and in Alaa’s and Gamal’s case the level of life in prison.
On August 4, Al-Hayat newspaper carried in the following report on the Mubarak trial: Gamal, the son of former President Hosni Mubarak, was the only accused who insisted on staying up throughout the court session in which he - along with his father Hosni, brother Alaa and former Interior Minister Habib al-Adli – were being tried. Gamal who has been referred to before the eruption of the revolution as the heir to the throne and who was the closest person to his father seems to have maintained that special bond even after the revolution. This was clear to everyone during yesterday’s trial, since Gamal was giving all his attention to his father, despite the fact that he is mainly responsible for the toppling of his father’s regime.
It was the first public appearance by Gamal and Alaa since the eruption of the Egyptian revolution on January 25 and it must be noted that this was the first meeting to be held between the two sons and their father since they were incarcerated in the Tora Prison in April. It seems that what the press has been saying for years in regard to the special bond between Gamal and Hosni is true, as during the last few years, the father allowed the son to run the internal affairs of the country through his position as head of the Policies Committee in the National Democratic Party.
In the meantime, and while former Interior Minister Habib al-Adli and his aides were preoccupied with the developments seen during the trial, Gamal and Alaa
were preoccupied with their father’s wellbeing and doing their best to hide his
face from the camera lenses. Gamal thus stood by his father during the four long hours and he was the one who moved his father’s bed inside the cage. The former president talked a few times with Alaa but his main conversations were with Gamal.

Yemen

A number of military commanders and officers announced the formation of a coalition to support the popular protests opposing the Yemeni president. The officers dubbed their coalition “the general coordination union for the free in the armed and security forces.” Moreover, a tribal coalition was proclaimed including a number of local sheikhs and leaders who pledged to support the young protesters demanding the toppling of the ruling regime. For its part, the military coalition announced in a press statement a pledge to support the revolution, the achievement of its goals and the “drawing up of adequate solutions for the officers and soldiers who joined the revolution.”

Israeli file

The Israeli papers issued this week tackled the expansion of the protests on the Israeli streets and the major demonstration called for on Saturday in Tel Aviv with the participations of more than 250 thousand people. On Sunday and in the context of this economic meltdown the Israeli stock market had to shut down before the official closing time after it had lost 6% of its value in only a few hours for the first time in Israeli history

The papers also pointed to the criticism made by the chairman of the Histadrut to the government, saying that Israel had turned into a filthy capitalist regime.

The papers also tackled the trial of deposed President Hosni Mubarak and how he was introduced on a stretcher inside the accusation cage with the inauguration of the first session, issuing several expressions to describe the scene mainly governed by humiliation and pity.

On the other hand, Haaretz quoted Israeli naval intelligence officer Yaron Levi as saying that Hezbollah had Iranian land to sea missiles developed from Chinese missiles. He added that these rockets were capable of hitting all the Israeli ports, the water rich in gas and a large portion of the Israeli navigation course.

The Lebanese file

The headlines of the Lebanese papers issued this week tackled the interference in Syrian domestic affairs by the March 14 team, the Israeli attack on the Lebanese border which was deterred by the army on its anniversary, as well as the ratification by the Lebanese government of the maritime border and the ratification by parliament of the law proposal in regard to this file.

The media office of former Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri issued a statement saying: “The Arab and international silence toward what is happening in Syria and especially in the city of Hama which was previously subjected to the most hideous massacre in the 80s of last century does not provide the necessary solutions. We in Lebanon cannot in any way remain silent towards these bloody developments on the Syrian internal arena,” calling on all those concerned to contain the situation and allow the Syrian people to define their choices freely.

Many Lebanese positions condemned the new Israeli attack, the most prominent of which being that of Hezbollah that described this attack as being a crime, as being provocative and surprising, while confirming its full solidarity with the army. The party stressed: “The attack on whichever party in the army, people, resistance equation is an attack on all of Lebanon and requires the rallying of all the efforts to protect the county and its people and ensure its sovereignty.”

In another context, the office of international Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare announced it has acquired “material surrendered in person by Hezbollah officials to Lebanese Prosecutor Said Mirza on July 13” and that this material was presented upon a request from Bellemare’s office to Mirza following Nasrallah’s televised speech on July 2.

For its part, the media relations department in the party denied the personal delivery of any documents or files to Bellemare, announcing that the party gave several copies of Nasrallah’s speech and the documents featured in it to Mirza based on the personal request of the latter. It assured that Hezbollah “offers what it has to the Lebanese judiciary solely, because its position towards the international tribunal and its institutions is clear, public and final.”

The Security Council issued a statement condemning Syria and calling for an immediate discontinuation of the acts of violence and the respect of human rights.

Prime Minister Mikati considered that Lebanon’s position at the Security Council was based on its decision not to interfere in the internal affairs of other states, especially the Arab ones, as it always requested that no one interferes in its own affairs.
