On Saturday, 4 May 2013, the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Bashar al-Assad, personally unveiled a monument dedicated to the university students, victims of the terrorist actions which have plagued the country for two years.

The President spontaneously walked around the campus where thousands of students were gathered for the ceremony.

Classified as a "revolution" by NATO and the Gulf Cooperation Council, the turmoil in Syria is not characterized by the uprising of students but instead by the aggression they face at the hands of the Al-Nusra Front (Al-Qaeda ).
