While Azerbaijan has signed a military contract with Israel amounting to $ 1.5 billion, Russian press reports indicate that the Jewish state has acquired eight military airports (4 in disuse and 4 operational) for an attack the Iran.

The Azerbaijani government has officially denied such reports without clarifying, however, Israel’s presence at the airports. Azerbaijan will not allow its territory to be used in an attack against its neighbors.

Sharing a common border with Iran, Azerbaijan would allow Israeli warplanes to bomb specific targets in northern Iran without having to refuel the aircraft in flight.

The election, on Friday, of a liberal President at the helm of the Islamic Republic of Iran makes an Israeli-Iranian war unlikely.

In 2008, Israel had acquired two military airports in Georgia to attack Iran. However, soon after the start of the August war against South Ossetia, Moscow destroyed them even before attacking Tbilisi.
