The President convened a summit of heads of state concerned by the situation in the CAR. Attending it were the United Nations Secretary-General, the President of the European Council, the presidents of Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan, the Prime Minister of the Central African Republic, the foreign ministers of Equatorial Guinea, Rwanda, Angola, Ethiopia and South Africa and the African Union’s Peace and Security Commissioner.

The heads of state welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2127 and agreed on the need to implement it with immediate effect. The African Union is committed and has deployed an African force on the ground. It has decided to increase this force to 6,000 troops. France is providing its support with Operation Sangaris, which, to date, is mobilizing 1,600 troops. The Central African authorities were urged to immediately establish a process of disarmament and cantonment of the militias and work for a political transition which must lead to elections as soon as possible.

All the heads of state agreed on the need to ease tensions between religious communities, they pledged to work towards this and called on the international community to mobilize the necessary capabilities to address this situation. The substantial assistance from the European Union and the United States of America was commended.

All the participants called for a donors’ conference to be convened as soon as possible to confront the humanitarian emergency and ensure the minimum functioning of the Central African state./.
