The State Department released a new volume of its diplomatic history, Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS), Volume XXII, Congo, 1960-1968, comprising numerous documents concerning it’s secret operations.

Washington therefore recognizes, 50 years later, it’s implication in the overthrow and assassination of Patrice Lumumba.

This publication profoundly modifies the portrayal of the crisis given in the 1994 edition of Foreign Relations of the United States, 1961–1963, Volume XX, Congo Crisis, which skipped over the entire covert operation.
