Arab League puts a damper on Palestinian peace talks

The Arab League emphasized on Sunday, March 9, 2014, its rejection of recognizing the Jewish character of the State of Israel.

In the framework of the ongoing secret talks between Tel Aviv and the Palestinian Authority, it was taken for granted that the latter - once Mohammad Dahlan replaces Mahmoud Abbas - would recognize Israel as a "Jewish state."

However, on the one hand, the financial compensation offered by Washington to Arab States for naturalizing Palestinian refugees has yet to be clearly established and, on the other hand, the worsening relations between the United States and Russia over Ukraine deprive Washington of the support it was counting on.
