Questioned by PBS, the United States ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, declared that « … President Barack Obama’s firm conviction is that it is impossible to treat the problem of the Islamic Emirate in a durable manner as long as the Assad problem remains unresolved ». Indeed, she continued « … one of the reasons that foreign terrorist combattants flock to Syria is that they want to fight Assad, whom they see launching attacks with barrels of explosive and chlorine. We can’t separate these two elements ».

Apart from the fact that it’s the first time that the United States speak of their actions in the « war on terror » in these terms, the declarations are both unfounded and illogical. Indeed -
the use of « barrels of explosive » and « chlorine » makes no sense from the military point of view for an army like the Syrian Arab Army, which is well-equipped by Russia. These accusations are in fact only proffered by the allies of the United States, and rejected by everyone else.
above all, the Islamic Emirate is indeed present in Syria, but mainly in Iraq and also in Libya.
What does this pretext about President el-Assad have to do with the fighting in Iraq and Libya ?
Clearly, in the event of the signature of the agreement between Washington and Teheran on the 30th June, Washington intends to conserve the non-State map of the Islamic Republic in order to continue to act in the region without having to explain itself.
