The upper part of the North Crimean Canal, connecting Crimea to the Dnieper River, was captured by the Russian army. Efforts immediately began to restore Crimea’s drinking water supply, cut off by the government of Kiev in July 2019.

Built by the Soviets in 1971, this canal brings to Crimea 85% of its drinking water.
