Local and Arab press focused on the current preparations for holding the Arab summit in Damascus at the end of this month without recording any progress in solving the complicated crisis among a number of Arab states. The press concentrated on Amr Musa’s confirmation that Lebanon’s participation in the summit is very necessary, pointing out that Lebanon faces a crisis and discussing it on a high level is highly important.
Musa talked about Saudi-Syrian-Egyptian communications while press sources said that the Egyptian side continued its communications with Damascus through delegating head of the intelligence Amr Suleiman to Damascus in an attempt to reach an understanding that opens the way for electing General Michel Suleiman as a president before the summit in order to secure holding it on a high level of representation. Lebanese press focused on the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers which was held yesterday in Cairo. The press said the ministers did not reach any solutions for the disputed issues including the Lebanese file. Sources of Ain Attineh said the Arab league secretary general was not honest in conveying the stands of the Lebanese sides or in dealing with them wondering about the reason of ignoring what he heard from former premier Saleem Al-hoss and former premier Omar Karami on the necessity of the neutrality of the coming prime minister who should assume specific missions through a transitional government.
