Addressing participants, Cuban Health Minister José Ramón Balaguer spoke about the importance of solidarity and harmony with Mother Earth.
He expressed his condolences for the loss of human lives due to the A H1N1 virus, particularly in Mexico, one of the countries most affected by this disease.
He emphasized the right of all human beings to have access to medical assistance and the importance of re-establishing societies and peoples that are more humane to prevent them from becoming mere consumers or merchandise, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.
Speaking on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) -currently presided by Cuba-, Balaguer said that the organization considers today’s economic and financial panorama as one of the most serious threats to the world.
The Cuban Health Mminister reported that despite difficulties faced by his country, Cuba ended 2008 with an infant mortality rate of 4.7 per every 1,000 live births and a life expectancy of 77.97 years.
