In an interview with Gayane Chichakyan and aired on RT news channel on 9 November 2011, former chief of the CIA’s Bin Laden unit Michael Scheuer said that the enemy of the United States - radical Islam opposed to democracy and gender equality - does not exist and never existed. The attacks aimed at the United States are not spurred by its lifestyle but by its Middle East policy and support for Israel and Saudi Arabia.

The renowned analyst lashed out at US elites for their belief - inherited from Trotskyism - in the superiority of a political model and the possibility of spreading it everywhere. In this regard, he noted that, until he was called down by the Syrian government, the American ambassador in Damascus had criss-crossed the country instigating various groups to overthrow the regime, something no other ambassador would be allowed to do.

Michael Scheuer is the anonymous author of two books: Through Our Enemies’ Eyes : Osama bin Laden, Radical Islam, and the Future of America and Imperial Hubris : Why the West is Losing the War on Terror. He recently published Marching Toward Hell : America and Islam After Iraq under his own name.

After being forced to resign for breach of professional secrecy and leave the CIA in 2004, he worked as an analyst at the Jamestown Foundation (a news agency created by the CIA). He was dismissed from there in 2008 for criticizing the Israel lobby and its exorbitant influence on U.S. policy.
