On 22 November 2013, Egypt announced it was expelling the Turkish ambassador in Cairo, Huseyin Avni Botsali (pictured), accused of meddling in the country’s internal affairs. The Egyptian ambassador in Ankara, Abderahman Salah El-Din, had already left Turkey on August 15th, after Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s comments regarding the ’’very grave massacre of [627] pacific protestors’’.

In retaliation, Turkey has said that it would not allow the return of the Egyptian ambassador, and that it would downgrade it’s diplomatic representation to a head of mission level.

Turkey, which had been counselling the Muslim Brotherhood government of Mohamed Morsi, persists in denouncing General Al-Sissi’s coup d’état and encouraging people to revolt against the new military power.

The Egyptian military deposed president Morsi on July 3rd 2013, following massive demonstrations and at the request of all the religious and political groups in the country, with the exception of the Muslim Brotherhood who accuses them of high treason.
