On 16 March 2014, the Syrian Arab Army liberated the city of Yabroud (on the Lebanese border), the last major stronghold of the contras affiliated to the Al-Nusra Front (Al-Qaeda) and to the Islamic Front (Saudi militia).

More than a thousand contras have retreated to Lebanon.

The liberation of Yabroud foreshadows the end of the battle for Qalamoun and the securing of the entire Lebanese border. This represents an extremely hard blow to the foreign armed groups attacking Syria.

The contras continue to occupy zones adjacent to the Jordanial and Turkish borders.
