The US President Donald Trump has announced that the Head of CIA Director Mike Pompeo will replace Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State and the position formerly held by Pompeo will be filled by his number 2, Gina Haspel.

President Trump and Tillerson have had clashes on several foreign policy issues, importantly on Russia, Iran and North Korea. Tillerson considered that was an absolute must to demonize Russia; he opposed the rupture of the 5+1 agreement with Iran; and was contrary to any dialogue whatsoever between President Donald Trump and his North Korean counterpart President Kim.

Peers unanimously consider Gina Haspel as one of the CIA’s finest spies; she is also unanimously challenged by politicians in Washington. Gina directed a CIA secret prison in Thailand where she supervised the horrors inflicted upon Abu Zubaydah and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri. This characterizes her as a symbol of the torture that was quite commonplace in Bush era. This is the first time that a woman has been appointed to head the CIA.

Further breaking news: Lawrence Kudlow, a former member of the Reagan Administration who went on to become a journalist for CNBC, could replace Gary Cohn who is resigning as President of the National Economic Council.
