António Vitorino: New Head of the IOM

+

The Portuguese Socialist Antonio Vitorino has been elected director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

This organization had been created the day following the Second World War to manage the displacement of people, a direct consequence of implementing peace treaties. It is currently linked to the UN and it currently implementing the policy devised by Peter Sutherland to destroy States [1].

Traditionally the IOM has been led by a US Diplomat. It has promoted international migration for two years. The outgoing director, William L. Swing, guaranteed that migratory flows must not be the exclusive domain of the elite but must be democratized because they are “inevitable, necessary and desirable”.

The candidate put forward by the US was the evangelist Ken Isaacs (the director of the “Samiritan’s Purse”, the organization of Billy and Franklin Graham). This was rejected following a campaign by the Washington Post exposing his anti-Muslim tweets [2].

The new director is António Vitorino. He had been Defense Minister of the government led by Antonio Guterres (current UN Secretary General). Vitorino had been forced to withdraw from politics due to tax fraud. However this did not hold him back from becoming the European Commissioner for Justice and the President of the Jacques Delors Our Europe Institute.
