The Orthodox chaplaincy of the Russian armies had a gigantic cathedral built in Moscow’s Patriotic Park. One of the frescoes celebrates the return of Crimea to the Motherland. It was to be inaugurated on May 9, the anniversary of the Soviet Victory over Nazism.

However, President Vladimir Putin ordered the removal of another mosaic depicting him alongside the heads of the intelligence services. That art piece had been commissioned by the Artistic Council of the Moscow Patriarchate.
