Dear British friends,
Your country has just left the European Union, after 47 years of life together.
It is the result of the sovereign decision the British people expressed in the referendum of June 2016, a democratic choice France has always respected.
Yet I must also tell you, as an ally and, even more, as a friend and true European, how deeply sad I am at this departure. And I am thinking, today, of the millions of Britons – from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern (...)

Citizens of Europe,
If I am taking the liberty of addressing you directly, it is not only in the name of the history and values that unite us. It is because time is of the essence. In a few weeks’ time, the European elections will be decisive for the future of our continent.
Never, since the Second World War, has Europe been as essential. Yet never has Europe been in so much danger.
Brexit stands as the symbol of that. It symbolises the crisis of Europe, which has failed to respond to its (...)

All of us have been spectators to the game that the opportunists are playing. They are trying to exploit and distort sincere (...)

After the Front de libération nationale, unleashed war, the PCA, which supports the movement for independence, breaks up and its leaders are actively hunted for. Maurice Audin is one of those who secretly helps them.
At the time, it is clear to all in Algiers that the men and women arrested in (...)

Mr. Speaker,
Mr. Vice President,
Honorable members of the United States Congress,
Ladies and gentlemen,
It is an honour for France, for the French people, and for me, to be received in this sanctuary of democracy, where so much of the history of the United States has been written.
We are surrounded today with images, portraits and symbols, which remind us that France has participated – with heart in hand – in the story of this great nation. From the very beginning.
We have fought (...)
Press statement by Emmanuel Macron on the intervention of the French armed forces in response to the use of chemical weapons in Syria
by
Emmanuel Macron

Dozens of men, women and children were massacred in Douma on Saturday, 7 April using chemical weapons, in total violation of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions.
There is no doubt as to the facts and to the responsibility of the Syrian regime.
The red line declared by France in May 2017 has been crossed.
Tonight, I have therefore ordered the French armed forces to intervene, as part of an international operation conducted in coalition with the United States (...)
