The Philippine government and the rebel Moro Islamic Liberation Front have formally signed a peace agreement in Manila, March 27, 2014 in the presence of more than a thousand guests .

The primary challenge to the oligarchic factions vying for power comes from organized social movements which directly threaten their sway over the voters. While most Western media are diligent to denounce human rights violations when it comes to certain countries, they have turned a blind eye to the outrageous abuses currently inflicted on medical workers in the Philippines, whose President, incidentally, is a staunch political ally of the Obama Administration.
