The recent death of Néstor Kirchner has been perceived as a great loss, not only to Argentina but to the region and the world. In May 2003, Kirchner took the reins of a country crushed by its most severe economic crisis and riddled by massive debt. His audacious and successful face-off with the International Monetary Fund showed the world that a country could defy the IMF and live to tell about it.

Has it occurred to President Barack Obama that Gen. Stanley McChrystal might actually have wanted to be fired — and thus rescued from the current March of Folly in Afghanistan, a mess much of his own making? Ray McGovern examines the question, observing that with "surge" architect General David Petraeus on board, rather than disengaging from Afghanistan, Obama will likely get stuck in an even deeper quagmire.

The Bilderberg Group conference is the most important meeting in the world, attended each year since 1954 by the world’s most powerful individuals. They meet behind closed doors and their decisions affect every human being on earth, at present and in the future. The step-by-step crafting of a supranational world government has been on their agenda for decades. This year in Greece, they focused on the economic crisis and the threat of a disease pandemic as a means of justifying centralization of power.

An earlier article published by Voltaire Network, which analyzed the situation in Kyrgyzstan when it was still in turmoil, entertained the possibility that Washington might have had a hand in the events leading to the overthrow of its former lackey. As can be seen below, the Manas military base is clearly not the sole U.S. interest in Kyrgyzstan and developments show that while Washington is beaming at Roza Otunbayeva’s interim Government, Russia and other neighbouring countries are increasingly taking a much dimmer view.

President Barack Obama’s stop in Turkey was hardly an afterthought, a "while I’m in the neighborhood" visit and it was far more momentous than the president’s speech would suggest. For Washington, Turkey today has become a geopolitical “pivot state” which is in the position to tilt the Eurasian power equation towards Washington or significantly away from it, depending on how Turkey develops its ties with Moscow and its role regarding key energy pipelines.

Negotiations began last week in Kabul between Afghanistan and the USA on a security agreement regarding the terms for the presence of American troops in the country following the official withdrawl of the foreign contingent in 2014. Evidently, the peacekeeper’s Nobel Laureates already played their role during the second presidential campaign and it is now a case of completely revising President Obama’s declarations in 2009 regarding "a new American strategy in Afghanistan." According to Alexander Knyazev, regional programmes coordinator for the Russian Institute of Oriental Studies, who recently gave an interview to the Russian news agency IA REX, the continued presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan will become a destabilising factor for the security of (...)
Pirates, Smoke and Mirrors!
The Crisis in Somalia: US-NATO Plans to Control the Indian Ocean by
Rick Rozoff

Located in the strategically crucial Horn of Africa on the eastern edge of the continent - adjacent to the Red Sea, Suez Canal and key commercial waterways, Somalia has consistently been at the center of U.S. geopolitical interests in the region since the Cold War years. Presidents have come and gone and client states expediently reshuffled, but the longterm strategy has remained steadfast. Against this backdrop, piracy - whether genuine or manipulated - emerges as a convenient smokescreen to divert attention from the central issue: military control by the United States and NATO of the entire Indian Ocean to insure global energy dominance.

Only days after the failed Copenhagen Global Warming Summit, yet a new scandal over the scientific accuracy of the UN IPCC 2007 climate report has emerged. Following the major data-manipulation scandals from the UN-tied research center at Britain’s East Anglia University late 2009, the picture emerges of one of the most massive scientific frauds of recent history.

Over the Easter weekend, more than 60 South African church leaders and lay inter-faith theologians have responded to the Kairos Palestine Document, launched in December 2009 by a group of Palestinian Christians. They unequivocally reject Christian Zionism and theologies that justify the Israeli occupation, endorse the boycott campaign against Israel and denounce the links between the South African and Israeli governments. By comparing parallel experiences, they significantly conclude that conditions for Palestinians are even worse than those prevailing in South African apartheid.

The diplomatic efforts of U.N.-Arab League Special Envoy Kofi Annan, on the one hand, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, on the other hand, are running into the blatant bad faith of Qatar, France and their protégés.
Mr. Annan could not initiate mediation between the Syrian National Council and the Syrian presidency because the SNC demands that President Bashar al-Assad’s should first resign and be replaced by his Vice President. In any event, Kofi Annan was able to meet and speak at length with President al-Assad. The president laid emphasis on the fact that no effort will be successful as long as armed groups continue to foment chaos in the country. On his part, he declared himself open to any constructive proposal. According to the Gulf-based press, Kofi Annan has suffered a setback since he failed to convince al-Assad to resign, but that goal is not part of his mandate.
Lavrov met with his counterparts from the Arab League in Cairo. They agreed on five general (...)

All of us who are here are aware of the contrasting realities of the present world; we are conscious that never before has humanity simultaneously been offered so many possibilities and faced so (...)

1. One hundred years ago the UK and France fought together in the First World War. Seventy years ago, our two nations were again side by side to liberate Europe and end the Second World War. This year, we will gather with Allies to commemorate these anniversaries on June 6th in Normandy and on August 15th in Provence.
2. Cooperation between our two nations on security and defence is closer now than at any time since then. As Europe’s principal defence investors, fellow Permanent UN Security (...)

2014 has been the year of resurrection of the Atlantic Alliance, through the coup in Ukraine and the Daesh offensive in Iraq and Syria. These operations organized covertly by NATO, now allow it to replay the scenario of the Cold War. Thus has the US again become the "indispensable power".

The first one, signed by 74 members, called for the reconsideration, on the basis of Rule 9.1.a of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, of the ratified credentials of the Russian delegation (...)

As you are aware, in July, the Netherlands filed an interstate complaint against Russia with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in connection with the crash of Malaysia Airlines MH17 (a Boeing 777) in 2014. We regard this step as another blow to Russian-Dutch relations and a demonstration by The Hague of its firm intention, in defiance of common sense, to continue the dubious path of putting the blame and responsibility for what happened in the skies over Donbass entirely on Russia. (...)

Mr. President,
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
At the outset, I would like to congratulate you, Mr. President, on China assuming the presidency of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building in Asia. I am confident that under Presidency of China, CICA will take major steps to promote dialogue and cooperation among member states and will strengthen the deserved role that member states play in reinforcing peace and stability — both regionally and globally. I would also like to (...)

The Iraqi government has demanded the restitution of the territories occupied by the Kurdish Regional Government in 2014.
In 2014, the attempt to partition Iraq had been coordinated by the United States, Israël, Jordan and Turkey, in agreement with Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The initial plan was for the occupation of al-Anbar by Daesh, and the oil-fields of Kirkuk by the Kurdish Regional Government of Iraq . The Iraqi troops had withdrawn without fighting either Daesh or the Kurds, leaving (...)

State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China Foreword
On June 25 local time, the State Department of the United States released its country reports on human rights practices once again, making comments on the human rights situations in many countries while showing not a bit of regret for or intention to improve its own terrible human rights record. Plenty of facts show that, in 2014, the U.S., a self-proclaimed human rights defender, saw no improvements in its existent (...)

Mr. Speaker,
Mr. Vice President,
members of Congress,
my fellow Americans:
Today in America, a teacher spent extra time with a student who needed it, and did her part to lift America’s graduation rate to its highest level in more than three decades. An entrepreneur flipped on the lights in her tech startup, and did her part to add to the more than 8 million new jobs our businesses have created over the past four years. (Applause.) An autoworker fine-tuned some of the best, most (...)

Patriarch Raï in Damascus for a historical visit
By Pierre Khalaf
The Patriarch of the Maronite Church, Bechara Rai, has definitely turned the page of a decades-old dispute with Syria, by heading to Damascus to attend the inauguration of the new Greek Orthodox Patriarch, Yuhanna Yazigi. This religious and pastoral visit has an undeniable political dimension and it would not have happened without the encouragement of the Vatican that recommended to the heads of both Churches, Maronite and (...)
