On Friday, July 20, 2012, around 19:00, signals began to be sent to imbed new channels onto Arabsat and Nilesat. The signals mimic those of Syrian television, duplicating both the graphics and logos. For now, the programs present patriotic clips.

According to experts, the signals are being sent from Australia, probably from a U.S. National Security Agency base.

The genuine Syrian television signals were interrupted yesterday by Arabsat and Nilesat. Their websites were hacked and are inaccessible.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency, quoted by Ria Novosti [1], a film production company has built sets reproducing Syrian cities in Al-Zubayr (Qatar). False news reports are shot to eventually feed into the bogus TV channels that are planted on Arabsat and Nilesat.

A large security perimeter has been installed around the studios of Syrian state television. Umayyad Square is no longer accessible and traffic has been diverted through the tunnel instead. In the afternoon, an explosion occurred in the tunnel blocking it. The Syrian authorities have chosen to completely cut off the main intersection rather than risk reopening traffic near the main entrance to the studios.

On June 27, the Free Syrian Army destroyed the studios of the privately owned Al-Akbariya.

This afternoon (July 20), a Syrian television presenter, Mohammed Saeed (pictured), was abducted in Damascus by the FSA.
