The surprise military manœuvres of the Russian troops in the eastern region came to an end. From July 12th to the 21st 2013, they mobilized 160 000 men, 1 000 tanks and armoured vehicles, as well as 130 planes and helicopters, and 70 ships, all in the presence of 60 foreign military observers.

Summoned by president Poutine a few hours before triggering the drill, the manœuvres were very covered by the russian press, and are the most important ones since the Soviet Union’s dislocation.

If many problems have been identified, the Russian Armed Forces have appeared fit for combat, note Defence minister, Sergueï Choïgou, during his report to the president.
