President Vladimir Putin arrived at the Russia-operated Hmeimim Air Base to celebrate Orthodox Christmas with his troops. He was met there by President Bashar al-Assad, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, and the base commander, General Sergei Surovikin.
He headed next to Damascus where his Syrian counterpart took him to the Great Umayyad Mosque, a place of Christian, Jewish, Christian and Muslim worship. He meditated on the tomb of Saint John the Baptist. From there they went to the (...)

Considering that Vladimir Putin is responsible for the rise and recovery of Russia, the US and Israëli neo-conservatives have been attempting since 2011 to arrest him, try him and condemn him before an international court. As a faithful servant of their strategies, French President François Hollande has publicly suggested that Putin be held responsible for the crimes of the jihadists in Syria.
Vladimir Putin and François Hollande
Two Heads of State face their fellow citizensby
Thierry Meyssan

Although the economic situation in Russia is much more difficult than in France, Russian TV viewers massively followed the programme « Direct Line with Vladimir Putin », while the French showed scarce interest in « Citizen Dialogues with François Hollande ». The audience levels of the two programmes correspond to the public support garnered respectively by each political figure. For Thierry Meyssan, contrary to the dogmas of communication gurus, TV viewers and the electorate are not swayed by poor economic indicators, but rather by their president’s capacity as a leader or as a simple manager.

The Russian authorities publish few documents concerning their vision of the world. So the programme « Direct Line » with Vladimir Putin offered a rare opportunity to examine the evolution of Moscow’s perception of things. Beyond the performance of the Russian President, who spent four hours answering questions from his fellow citizens, we note that Russia seems to have given up the idea of regularising its relations with the United States, and is preparing for a long period of Western isolation.

Russia is reacting to the economic war which NATO is waging against her in the way she would have reacted in a conventional war. She allowed herself to be hit by unilateral "sanctions" in order to better lead the opponent to a battleground of her own choosing. Simultaneously, she has signed agreements with China to safeguard her future and with Turkey to disrupt NATO. As long ago, against France or Germany, her initial defeat could be the guarantee of her victory in the end.

Colleagues,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Friends,
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the XI meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club.
It was mentioned already that the club has new co-organisers this year. They include Russian non-governmental organisations, expert groups and leading universities. The idea was also raised of broadening the discussions to include not just issues related to Russia itself but also global politics and the economy.
I hope that these changes in (...)

President Putin’s Fiction: 10 False Claims About Ukraine
As Russia spins a false narrative to justify its illegal actions in Ukraine, the world has not seen such startling Russian fiction since Dostoyevsky wrote, “The formula ‘two times two equals five’ is not without its attractions.”
Below are 10 of President Vladimir Putin’s recent claims justifying Russian aggression in the Ukraine, followed by the facts that his assertions ignore or distort.

APEC Summit
"An Asia-Pacific Growth Agenda", article published in The Wall Street Journalby
Vladimir Putin

On Saturday, Russia will host the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit for the first time. That Vladivostok will be the epicenter of business and politics among the 21 nations in the Pacific Rim, including the United States. APEC is a platform for leaders to discuss the most pressing global and regional problems.
Since APEC discussions are open in nature, it’s only appropriate that I reveal the priorities we are proposing to our partners as the summit draws near. While the leaders (...)

For blocking a UN resolution that could have led to military intervention in Syria, Russia has been accused by the Orwellian West of putting its national interests ahead of the lives of millions of Syrians. By scrutinizing Vladimir Putin’s actions since his reelection, William Engdahl shows that Russia is indeed pursuing her national interests which are best served by fostering a just and peaceful world environment and by thwarting the US-Israeli agenda for a Greater Middle East.

While the Western system, under the influence of the war lobbies, is based on financial parasitism and unbridled predation, Venezuela and Russia are building an alternative model. The multipolar world is one of balanced partnerships and win-win agreements. But as pointed out by Olivia Kroth, the Libyan tragedy should serve as a lesson: the emergence of an alternative to imperial capitalism must go hand in hand with a strong defense capability.

The United States of America and the Russian Federation confirm our commitment to strengthening close and cooperative relations for the benefit of the peoples of our countries, international peace, global prosperity, and security. In recent years, we have laid a solid foundation for expanding our bilateral interaction in a variety of areas. Today we agree to continue this work guided by the principles of the rule of law, respect for human rights, equality, and mutual respect.

The billionaire Boris Berezovsky offered 50 million rubles (1.25 million euros or $ 1.6 million) to anyone who would arrest Vladimir Putin during his swearing in as new president of the Russian Federation.
Mr. Berezovsky lives in exile in London whence he finances all kinds of terrorist acts within his own country. With the help of London and Washington, he intends to have Vladimir Putin brought before an international court of justice.

In his boiled-down style, Stephen Lendman eviscerates the specious widespread claims of election fraud to discredit Vladimir Putin’s unambiguous victory. At issue is not the transparency of the electoral process, but the turning point marked by Putin’s comeback to the international scene, heralding the end of a unipolar world ruled over by the United States, Israel and NATO in outrageous disregard of international law. As foreshadowed by Moscow’s Syria stance, Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy aims to promote world stability, dialogue between civilizations, and shows the way to countries wishing to break free from imperial domination.
