On 7 November, at a press conference with his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orbán, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared that his country would continue to receive migrants, but that without the financial aid of the European Union, he was going to "open the gates."
The European Union had pledged to give Turkey € 2 billion a year in exchange for hosting migrants while preventing them from crossing into the EU. The first disbursement was made in 2016, but it actually served to finance (...)

Hundreds of thousands in harm’s way in northern Syria
The escalation of conflict in northern Syria risks causing more human suffering and adding new displacement to what is already the largest displacement crisis in the world.
Tens of thousands of civilians are on the move to escape the fighting and seek safety. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is calling on parties to adhere to International Humanitarian Law, including providing access for aid agencies.
“Hundreds of thousands of civilians in (...)

In August 2018, the international press reported on a massive exodus of Venezuelans fleeing the famine and chavist dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro. There were 18,000 to cross the border each day. At the time, the UN predicted that there would be 5.3 million Venezuelan migrants and refugees throughout Latin America by the end of 2019. There was a major crisis.
Alas! These figures were pure propaganda: the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees has just published its official statistics (...)

My fellow Americans: Tonight, I am speaking to you because there is a growing humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border.
Every day, Customs and Border Patrol agents encounter thousands of illegal immigrants trying to enter our country. We are out of space to hold them, and we have no way to promptly return them back home to their country.
America proudly welcomes millions of lawful immigrants who enrich our society and contribute to our nation. But all Americans are hurt (...)

Dear Members of Congress:
Congratulations to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and her entire team, on her election to be Speaker of the House. I look forward to working together on our shared priorities for the American People, including rebuilding our infrastructure, reforming unfair trade deals, and reducing the price of prescription drugs. Our recent bipartisan success on numerous legislative accomplishments such as Criminal Justice Reform, opioid legislation, and the Farm Bill, underscores the (...)

While seven states have already refused to sign the Global Pact on Migration, (which it is claimed was drafted in their interests), Thierry Meyssan revisits the history of this document and the philosophy which inspired its authors. The two strands of thought that thread this document together are the philosophies of Karl Popper and states releasing all control of their borders.

More than 150 states have registered for the conference on the adoption of the Global Pact for sure, orderly and regular migration of Marakesh [Note: the reference document in English is entitled Global Pact but the UN translates it as the World Pact].
In his introductory remarks, the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, took great pains to denounce the “false information” on the Pact. In particular, he emphasized that the text is not binding and it will not limit state sovereignty. (...)

Following the Nato Summit and the Helsinki Summit, Russia and the United States have agreed to evacuate Western personnel from Syria and to repatriate Syria refugees.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US partner Donald Trump have agreed to consider only a very small minority (less than 50,000) of those that fled the Syrian Arab Republic to be asylum seekers fleeing persecution. They have also agreed that the motive for which the vast majority (more than 2 million) did so, was to (...)

The Portuguese Socialist Antonio Vitorino has been elected director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
This organization had been created the day following the Second World War to manage the displacement of people, a direct consequence of implementing peace treaties. It is currently linked to the UN and it currently implementing the policy devised by Peter Sutherland to destroy States .
Traditionally the IOM has been led by a US Diplomat. It has promoted (...)

A very strange traffic is crossing the Mediterranean – in one direction, weapons to Africa and the Middle East – in the other, refugees who are the victims of these weapons. Unsurprisingly, the European political leaders are pretending not to know the main cause of these migrations.

An Austrian television broadcast a report showing a Christian Syrian refugee who decided to return to his country.
According to his testimony, he left Syria to escape the Islamists. He went to Europe hoping to find freedom. However, he was reportedly interrogated unceremoniously by the German police and placed in a refugee camp with supporters of al-Qaeda and Daesh and where he would have been the only Christian.

The Turkish government has sent to the European Commission its file aimed at relaxing the regime for granting European visas to its citizens.
During the migrant crisis, Turkey agreed to cooperate with the EU on the condition that the EU made it easier to Turkish nationals to be granted a visa. The Commission had established 72 criteria that Turkey has declared that it now satisfies.
The Commission will evaluate the elements presented by Turkey.
On 26 March, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (...)

Manlio Dinucci considers that the European Left has thrown overboard its values: it slams the US restrictions on immigration without really understanding their nature or design. At the same time, it is fiercely committed to increasing its military expenditure. And why? For empire building and conservation.
