Miguel D’ Escoto, President of the United Nations General Assembly, denounced on Monday in New York, during his last speech as head of this international body, that the unjust imprisonment of five Cuban antiterrorists in the United Sates is universally condemned.
The former Nicaraguan Foreign Minister said at the final plenary meeting of the General Assembly’s 63rd Period of Sessions, that the charges against these prisoners are unfair and arbitrary, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.
These men were condemned to harsh sentences for having unearthed terrorist plans against Cuba in Miami, stressed D’ Escoto.
The highly publicized policy of rectification of US President Barack Obama must correct such absurdity against Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González and René González, because it brings suffering to the five affected families and damages the image of the United States, said the Nicaraguan priest.
The 64th Ordinary Period of Sessions of the General Assembly, whose new president is Libyan Alí Abdussalam Treki, will begin on Tuesday.
