This medical student belongs to the Brigade’s Camp Number Two, and works at the Leogane community, on the country’s western department.

“Our experience so far here is that many patients don’t have good hygiene habits, and come to us with infections”, she said.

“We can appreciate that there’s lack of hygiene: streets are dirty, we find many cases of lack of personal hygiene, and there’s severe overcrowding”, she expressed.

Jacouni was born in Bamako, the capital of Mali, on April 5, 1981, and she’s now in the second year of her studies of Comprehensive General Medicine.

“One of the Haitian students from Havana’s Latin American Medical School who works with us recommended not to write on paper how to use medicines or treatments to follow, since people don’t read them, they can’t read them because they’re illiterates, and explain to them orally what to do with their medicaments instead”, she pointed out.

“And that’s what we’re doing, while promoting adequate habits of hygiene individually and collectively”, she concluded.
