The Ethiopian army has accused WHO director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, of being the sponsor behind the war in Ethiopia’s Tigray region.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus served as Ethiopian Minister of Health (2005-12), before being appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs (2012-16). He is a leader of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), which severed its ties with Marxism-Leninism after the dissolution of the USSR.
The TPLF reignited the rebellion on 4 November 2020. The Ethiopian (...)

Over five years ago we titled "Are missiles returning to Comiso? (Sicily)." This hypothesis was ignored by the entire political spectrum and dismissed by some self-styled expert as "alarmist." The alarm, unfortunately, was well founded.
A few days ago, on November 6, Lockheed Martin (the same company that produces the F-35s) signed a first $ 340 million contract with the US Army for the production of medium-range missiles, including those armed with nuclear warheads, designed to be (...)

On November 2, 2010, France and the United Kingdom (UK) signed the Lancaster House Treaties establishing a long-term bilateral nuclear, defence and security partnership. We mark their continuing importance to both our countries today, on their tenth anniversary. In the face of the changing defence and security challenges we both face, the United Kingdom and France share a strong and deep defence partnership, with a permanent and comprehensive dialogue on defence and security issues at all (...)

We have not received an official response from the United States to our October 16 note with President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to extend the New START Treaty for one year. We have only seen comments made by US officials in the social media. Considering an ambiguous reaction to this situation, we believe it is necessary to clarify the matter.
Russia has proposed extending the New START for one year and is ready to assume a political obligation together with the United States to freeze the (...)

We have the honour to bring to your attention an urgent matter regarding the use of chemical weapons, which is a threat to international peace and security.
On 20 August 2020, Russian opposition politician Alexey Navalny became severely ill during a return flight to Moscow from the Siberian city of Tomsk. Mr. Navalny received initial medical treatment in a hospital in Omsk before he was transferred to the Berlin Charité hospital on 22 August.
On 2 September 2020, the German Government (...)

On 4 August 2020, the US Defense Department formed an Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF) under the command of the Navy. The Pentagon fears that Russia or China may already be in possession on non-conventional aircraft.
On 29 August 2020, during the meeting at the Andersen Air Force Base on the island of Guam between US Defense Secretary Mark Esper and his Japanese counterpart, Taro Kono, the US side spelled out its concerns.
Two weeks later, on 14 September 2020, Japan’s (...)

The first Israeli Prime Minister has ordered the destruction of a Hizbollah weapons warehouse in Beirut with a new weapon. The weapon, which is not well known, caused considerable damage in the city, killing more than 100 people, injuring 5,000 and destroying many buildings. This time it will be difficult for Benjamin Netanyahu to deny it.

At the beginning of July, a new weapon was deployed against 7 Iranian ships in the Persian Gulf , then again on 4 August rocking the port of Beirut.
In all eight cases, the smoke cloud bore no resemblance to that generated by a conventional explosion; what rose instead was a mushroom cloud like in an atomic explosion.
In Beirut, the blast caused the ground to shake in a radius of 200 kilometers, at a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter scale, according to the German Geoscience Center (...)

We have taken note of an article posted on the US Department of Defence website saying that missile defence is allegedly becoming an element of rivalry between the great powers. Citing an unnamed Pentagon official, the article claims that Russia and China are developing several increasingly sophisticated missile defence systems in the context of rivalry with the United States. As follows from the text, the US military sees this as a threat.
We take this post as part of a targeted (...)

We have taken note of statement made by US and British officials, including US Special Presidential Envoy for Arms Control Marshall Billingslea, head of US Space Command Jay Raymond, US Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Non-proliferation Christopher Ford and Director of the Space Directorate at the UK Ministry of Defence Harvey Smyth), in connection with the testing of a Russian satellite, which allegedly has “the characteristics of a (...)

I am writing to you with reference to a letter contained in document S/2020/608, wherein the representative of the Israeli regime has bemoaned the termination of the application of certain measures on the export to and import from the Islamic Republic of Iran of arms as specified in resolution 2231 (2015).
Since the conclusion of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which was widely welcomed by the international community as an outstanding achievement of multilateral diplomacy, and (...)

I wish to express my deep concern regarding the ongoing malign activities of the Iranian regime, which undermine United Nations Security Council resolutions, foster instability in the Middle East and pose a great threat to international peace and security. It is at this critical time, as we approach the possible expiration of the arms embargo on Iran set forth in Security Council resolution 2231 (2015) that I wish to highlight these grave Iranian violations and to urge the Security Council (...)

We have noted a new document published by the US Department of State and produced by Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Ford where he “looks back” on Russian and Soviet compliance with arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament agreements in 1984-2020. Following the tone of the US Department of State annual report on compliance with international agreements in this area, Washington has again made an attempt to assume the role of a superior who is entitled to lecture others and (...)

Good morning, and thanks to John Bellinger for hosting, as well as to the Council on Foreign Relations for giving me the chance to speak to you.
Let me start by giving you three data points. First, yesterday, U.S. and Russian officials met in Vienna to discuss opportunities for trilateral arms control.
Second, last night, the State Department sent to Congress the unclassified text of the 2020 edition of our Report on Adherence to and Compliance With Arms Control, Nonproliferation, and (...)

We have noted the publication of the summary of the open version of the “Defence Space Strategy” released by the US Department of Defence which sets priority tasks for the Defence Department in outer space for the next ten years and provides guidelines to reach them.
The document confirms Washington’s aggressive policy in the space area. The final goal is clearly indicated – to ensure America’s “space superiority.” In this connection the Pentagon’s activities will focus on the military use of (...)
